On 27 July 2022, Botswana’s minister of finance announced a series of measures. These measures were implemented with a view to combating the rising inflation. These measures were published in the official gazette on 1 August 2022 and are effective from 3 August 2022.
The key measure is a reduction in the Value Added Tax (“VAT”) rate.
The standard VAT rate is reduced from 14% to 12%.
This is a temporary reduction and will only apply for a period of 6 months.
