Ghana approves new E-levy of 1.5%

Ghana approves new E-levy of 1.5%

On 29 March 2022, the Ghanaian government passed the Electronic Transfer Levy Bill 2021.

The bill introduces a new levy known as the “Electronic Transaction Levy” or “E-Levy”.

The E-levy is a 1.5% tax that will be charged on all electronic transactions including bank transfers, mobile money payments, merchant payments and inward remittances.

It was proposed that the e-levy applies from February 2022. Nevertheless, we are waiting for the Act to be published to get confirmation on the effective date.
